BIOGRAPHY

George J Butorac is a young 93 year old with a keen interest in the world around us. An honors graduate from the University of Minnesota, he has experienced a diverse and rewarding swath of Americana from the Cuyuna Iron Range to Western mining camps to competitive athletics to the US Marine Corps to Aerospace management and then to retired author.

This bio will focus on aspects of his career that influenced writing "A Better Me, A Better World".

Exposure to military servomechanisms in his first job out of college was the major learning experience of his life, and especially, in writing this book. George worked for six aerospace companies in multi-technologies and in multi-positions. His progression was from field engineer to marketing to program management to general management. One of his programs, managed with servo techniques, won the first Malcolm Baldrige National Quality award in 1988. He also taught technology courses at Henderson House, an offshoot of Northeastern University, and at three of his employer facilities.

Why I Wrote
A BETTER ME
A BETTER WORLD

I spent five years writing “A Better Me A Better World” 24 years ago. It challenged our reliance upon using conflicting mythology to guide personal and societal wellbeing. Unfortunately, it didn’t sell. My criticism of religion appalled my Catholic family and close friends. In addition I was an unknown author who was tackling controversial subjects. However, two things happened that rekindled my interest in promoting the book: my survival and the multiple national debacles since then. At 93, I am the sole survivor of my Catholic siblings and most of my close Catholic friends have passed away. Nationally, our misguided War on Terror, Wall Street bailout, capitalistic exploitation, Congressional fiscal corruption, and Trumpian egomania jeopardize our future. ABMABW provides guidance to avert such behavior.

My book expands Spinoza’s comment that moral theory must be based upon man’s nature, not man’s nature upon moral theory. Rigorous evidence proves that man’s nature is based upon evolutionary history and that physiological morality and servo controls guided all of evolution. So why don’t we use those proven techniques to now guide personal and societal behavior…that’s what my book does!!!!

A key concept in the book involves the identification of the PHYSIOLOGICAL MORALITY inherent in all life. It clearly points to SURVIVAL, EVOLUTION – being the best we can be, and ENJOYMENT, in that hierarchical order as the innate purposes of human life.

Book Cover for Larger Than Life

Larger Than Life

Larger Than Life is an anecdotal history of the 20 most interesting characters I met in life. They are as inspirational and/or enjoyable as the fictional heroes of my childhood. For the most part, they didn’t have great material wealth but they all had something more valuable, an indomitable spirit and a joy for living that are priceless. These men came from the Cuyuna Iron Range of Minnesota, the U.S. Marine Corps, Western mining camps, Texas, the Aerospace industry, and a Scottsdale bar. They represent a diversity spanning from a Texas multimillionaire to an immigrant miner. The tale of a humble parish priest who became a chaplain and world traveler provides a benediction for the book.

I anticipate that some of the anecdotes presented will be absorbed into your subconciousness as they have been in mine. You will then be equipped to look at life through a new lens, one that enables you to extract more of the humor that lies latently in everyday events.

This book was by far the easiest to write and publish by my Iron Duke publishing company in 2000. The only problem was getting photos of the persons involved. It is hard to imagine, in this time frame, the scarcity of photos from 50 to 100 years ago. This book sold the most, over 500 copies, mostly to Iron Rangers when I left the book business in 2001.

Much to my surprise in 2019, when I became interested in reviving ABMABW due to the turmoil racking our nation, I was totally surprised by the pages of Amazon ads promoting LTL and my original ABMABW. Without my knowledge or permission. LTL was being sold in seven or eight foreign countries by another publisher with me as the author. An unauthorized hard copy version of LTL was also being sold. (Similar unauthorized alterations were made to ABMABW without as much success.)

Book Cover for Joys of Living

Joys of Living

This was an attempt to explain the essentials of, and the actions leading joy in living. I spent two years reading extensively about evolution, human physiology, sociology, psychology, sociology, philosophy, therapy, and history. I discovered answers to many perplexing questions relative to how we function, think, heal, learn, and enjoy. When human physiology and behavior as well as social behavior are viewed in the light of evolutionary history, it becomes a clairvoyant experience. I gained an understanding of the physiological morality (carrots and sticks) used by the body to maintain homeostasis and achieve natural joy.

Seven critical behaviors were distilled from this study effort that impact personal happiness. They are:

  • Broaden your worldview in a positive objective manner.
  • Take responsibility for your life.
  • Maintain your physical, mental, emotional, and moral health.
  • Be the best you can realistically be.
  • Give and receive love and friendship.
  • Transcend your primitive heritage.
  • Morally enjoy life.

Sorry to say, this book was a comedy of self-publication errors with much wasted effort and frustration. A few readers raved about it and bought copies for each of their children. But the knowledge gained was more than worth the effort.
